How the Points are Calculated
The Opportunity Card operates on a transparent points system established by the German Federal Government.

Important Application Rules
Even if you score 6 points or more, you must satisfy the Basic Criteria to be granted the card:
- Possession of a vocational or academic qualification from a university/institution recognised in Germany (e.g. check on Anabin).
- Proof of at least German A1 OR English B2 language level.
- Demonstration of sufficient financial funds (Blocked Account) to cover living expenses during job search.
Proof of Sufficient Funds
The Opportunity Card requires candidates to demonstrate that they possess sufficient funds. For 2026, the German Federal Government requires applicants to prove they hold approx. €1,027 per month (amounting to €12,324 for the 1-year duration).
This proof is typically supplied via a German Blocked Account or an official declaration of commitment (Verpflichtungserklärung).
